C&F Partner Takes Leadership Role in Fight for Bikers’ Rights

August 8, 2011

C&F Partner Ross Hirsch has played an instrumental role in passing a new piece of bikers’ rights legislation spearheaded by Los Angeles City Councilman, Bill Rosendahl. The new ordinance, approved by Los Angeles City Council in late July, prohibits motorists from harassing cyclists, and awards successful complainants a minimum liability of $1,000, regardless of damages, in addition to lawyer fees. However, the ordinance does not provide for the driver’s legal fees, even if he or she is successful.

The groundbreaking law has been praised by the cycling community, especially as no other city offers its bicyclists as much protection. Mr. Hirsch was featured in two KPCC 89.3 radio interviews: one in March to discuss the importance of approving the law, and one in July to discuss the consequences of the recently approved law.
